Amharic: why this language is so popular in localization needs?

With more than 32 million native speakers and over 57 million speakers around the globe, Amharic is one of the first popular languages when it concerns localization to African languages. It is the official language of Ethiopia. It has been the main language of communication and trade since the 12th century in that region.

The writing system of Amharic is unusual and called Abugida. It is written in Ethiopic script, which in its turn is the liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox church. See the picture below:

Did you know that Amharic is known as the Rastafari language? It is considered a holy language among the movement and made Rastafarians learn Amharic as their second language. Ras comes from the Amharic word for "head," and Tafari refers to the former emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie.
