How to become a successful voice talent

International business is growing nowadays, and the role of localization is paramount in the history of any company.

A large number of companies are seeking their product to be not just translated, but also voiced over in today's world.

There may be considerable differences between markets when it comes to the reception of a certain product, so localizing your products accordingly becomes a must. There are different kinds of voiceover projects, such as IVR, e-learning, corporate videos, dubbing, navigation apps, etc. Sometimes, for instance, subtitles might not be the best choice for your video, because each market has different preferences concerning the ways information is received, so, sometimes, audio information is preferred in certain markets rather than visual information. It all depends on the project, but truth to tell, voice over is getting more and more popular nowadays.

Have you ever thought about becoming a voice talent?

Just having these 3 qualities allows you to start, and try:

  •  good voice,
  •  basic technical knowledge,
  •  and interest.

Starting with a good voice:

Try to make your voice sound clear, and naturally loud. Imitate other actors' voices to make sure you sound good. Imitate news correspondents' voices on the TV and Radio.

Here, on our webpage you can also find examples of voice samples

Technical knowledge: You may need to get familiar with some technical ambience before you start. Don't be afraid, because voice recording doesn't require you to have a complex studio.

If you have any doubts at first, recording your own voice samples will probably take you to some local studio, so you can see how it goes there.

You definitely need to try this professional experience at least once, and learn how you feel in this situation, and how your voice sounds with a microphone.

Remember, that your voice samples have to sound good and clear enough to attract agents all over the world. You can record IVR, e-learning, and commercial demos to practice.

We have found a special video on how professional voice-over actors record in studios:

You can learn from them! It can be a lot of fun!

If you speak 2 languages, you can record some samples with your accents. Here, for example, you can find an English voice-over with a French accent

After having some experience in a professional studio, you might consider creating your own home studio to record your voiceover spots. And this is really fun, too!

A basic set of voice actor includes a laptop, a sound interface, and a condenser microphone. For audio recording and editing you can even find some free software like Audacity.

Interest: Don't forget to put a lot of interest, and belief in what you are doing.

You can face some difficulties when you begin, but remember it's all nothing when you start feel there's nothing like starting to feel you're getting better every day in something you like, and also, you can benefit from it.

Russian voice over talent: 'Becoming a successful voice talent depends on many factors: your personal talent, and experience, luck and, of course, your voice and its characteristics. You never know what kind of voice a company is looking for to work on their project, but surely it can be yours if you worked hard and if your creative possibilities are never limited.'

Vietnamese voice-over: 'Firstly, love our job. Practice day by day, and don't be shy, practice daily. Speak clearly, speak with confidence. My secrets are simple. Always "warm up" prior to recording. Treat your voice with kindness. And, relax in suitable ways.'
